AS A MALE RUNNER, I OFTEN HIT THE PAVEMENT WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT ABOUT MY SAFETY.
But I know this isn’t the reality for many women in our community. Every day, women face the harsh reality of feeling unsafe while doing something as simple as going for a run or walking home at night.
This issue became even more real to me when I heard stories from female friends who avoid running after dark or carry keys between their fingers just in case.
It’s not right, and it’s not fair. No one should feel afraid in their own community.
So, I’m teaming up with the KYUP! Project to help change this narrative.
This run is about more than distance—it’s about awareness and change.
I’m running to raise funds for KYUP! Project an incredible organisation that empowers young people through workshops on self-defence, awareness, and personal safety.

113 women have died in Australia at the hands of their abuser since the start of 2023*. On the November 15, Hayden is running 113kms across Sydney’s violence hotspots from 7pm to 7am, the time when many women feel most vulnerable.

Real Results
Prior to our workshops, less than 50% of girls believed they were equal to boys. After our workshop, over 80% felt equal. Boys who participated also recognized the equality of girls.
